4th of July- Broadus Style

Happy 100th Birthday Broadus!

We made it to Broadus over the 4th of July to celebrate the town's centennial. We were blessed with almost all of Joel's fmaily making it (we very much missed Chandler, Keagan, and Autumn). The first night we arrived there was a chili feed and a cowboy story teller at the museum. At the museum, we also got to visit the old jail.
There were also horse and buggy rides. Wally was pretty excited to go for a ride with Gramma. I'm not sure the cousins heard any of the story telling because they were so excited to see each other.
Trotting around the block where the roads were built wide enough for a horse and buggy to turn around.
Joel played in the annual softball tournament (his team took second!). Somehow, I didn't get any pictures of him playing. Sorry Hon! One super hot morning, Amy, Jenna, the 'olly twins (Molly and Wally), and I went to the park while the big boys played softball. One the way there, we had to stop and feed the horses.
We also had fun in the water. Jen Isaacs was able to come up with her boyfriend Robert and his daughter. Auntje (I'm sure I spelled her name wrong) fit in with the other kiddos for sure! The girls spent much of their time giggling about something their silly cousin Wally was doing.
How Wally does slip'n'slide.

Start sliding sooner Wally!
Apparently Wally had to pee, so he excused himself and found a tree (which happened to be in plain sight of all of the grown-ups on the deck).
How to not waste your nacho cheese, Wally style.

One night, there was an amazing variety show that Kathy took us to. It was basically the history of Broadus over the 100 years. There was a slide show, music, and costumes from all of the eras. We knew Amy was going to be in it, but we didn't know she was going to have a solo. She was amazing singing a song from the 1920s (I think, sorry if I got it wrong). She stole the show! I had never seen her perform before. Her voice is breath taking, but her stage presence seals the deal! The rest of the weekend, people would stop her and say, "You're Amy Graff, you were amazing!" I felt like I was with a movie star!
The Heidels had a float commemorating their family and the Powder River Bank. The boys were dressed as the elder Heidels, and Gramma Cammila, Kathy and her cousins were on the float as well.
The grandkids were dressed as cowboys and were "holding up" the bank. Too bad it was pretty chilly and we couldn't actually put water in their squirt guns.
They had a blast throwing candy to the crowd though.
Amazingly, these guys held their arms up the whole parade!
What a parade in a small town looks like. It was so much fun!
Gramma Kathy and her family (sadly missing, Chandler, Keagan, and Autumn).
Cousin Alaina made it down too!
The easiest way to travel in a small town.
One afternoon, Great Gramma came over and Wally just sat right down and started talking to her and coloring with her. They both thought it was pretty special.
Our stay in Broadus ended with a fireworks show that we watched from the nursing home. The kiddos had a great time making a parade before the show started.
We all had a great time getting to catch-up with the family. Wally loves his cousins and is always talking about how he wants to go on a long car ride to go visit them. We love you guys!
